State of Alabama, Barbering Certification Requirements
You must be at least 17 years old and have a 10th grade education.
To be eligible to become an instructor, you must have a 12th grade education; 1 year in practice; 650 hour training course for instructors along with the exams.
Your license must be renewed every 2 years during the month of your birthday.
Coming in from another state, you must request certification to be sent from your current state, and contact the board for paperwork and exams. There is a $100 fee.
Continuing education: 8 CEU's; 16 CEUs for instructors
Training requirements in Alabama:
Barber – 1000 hours for Class II Cosmetologist – 1500 hours or 3000 apprenticeship hours Esthetician – 1500 hours or 3000 apprenticeship hours Nail Technician – 750 hours or 1200 apprenticeship hours Instructor – 1500 hours, unless you have a manager’s license, then it’s 650 hours. You have to be licensed for one year to receive a manager’s license.
