State of Oregon, Barbering Certification Requirements

To become a cosmetology instructor, you must have 2 years of training plus 1 year of work experience. You must also have a teacher registration from the Department of Education.

You must renew your license every 2 years by the end of the month your license was originally issued during. There is a $40 fee.

To work in Oregon if you're from another state, you must submit an affidavit of licensure, along with a qualifying application. You'll need to pass a written exam which will include Oregon Laws and Rules.

Instructors must complete 30 CEUs to renew their license.

Hair Design – 1700 hours
Barbering – 1100 hours
Electrologist – 600 hours
Facial Technology – 500 hours
Nail Technology – 600 hours
Hair Design, Esthetics and Nail Technology – 2300 hours
Hair Design and Esthetics – 1950 hours
Hair Design and Nail Technology – 2050 hours
Nail Technology and Esthetics – 850 hours
Instructor – two years of licensed practice or two years of instructor training
