State of Tennessee, Barbering Certification Requirements
You'll need to be at least 16 years old with a 10th grade education.
To become a cosmetology instructor, you need your high school diploma or GED, your cosmetology license, 300 hours of instructor training in 6 months or 1 year of junior instruction.
You must renew your license every 2 years prior to the actual expiration date. There is a $50 fee.
To work in Tennessee if you're from another state, you need to have proof of your current license, and it must be from a state with equal or greater licensing requirements. If you have 5 years of provable work experience, you may substitute the licensing requirement with that.
Instructors must complete 16 CEUs every 2 years.
