State of Alaska, Nail Care Certification Requirements
You must be at least 17 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
To become an instructor, you must hold a valid cosmetology license, have one full year in practice plus 3 years of practice OR 1 year of practice in another state and 600 hours of instructor training. You must also pass a written and practical exam.
License renewals are by August 31st of odd-numbered years. There is a $160 fee or a $240 instructor fee.
To practice if you're from another state, you must already have a license in a state with equivalent requirements; 1 year of full time work plus 1500 school hours, or 2 years of full time work.
There are no continuing education requirements in Alaska.
Educational requirements in Alaska:
Barber – 1650 hours or 2000 apprenticeship hours Esthetician – 350 hours Hairdresser – 1650 hours or 2000 apprenticeship hours Instructor – 600 hours if licensed between 1-3 years. If licensed over 3 years, no additional training hours are needed. Manicurist – 250 hours, plus 12 hours of additional instruction
