State of Connecticut, Nail Care Certification Requirements

You must be at least 16 years old with an 8th grade education.

To become an instructor, you must have a valid cosmetology license and pass the cosmetology instructor exam. There is a $20 fee.

License renewal is every 2 years by the last day of your birthday month. There is a $100 fee.

To practice in Connecticut from another state, you must hold a valid license from that state with equivalent education requirements, plus pass a written exam.

There are 10 continuing education units required to renew your license every two years.

Educational requirements in Connecticut:

Cosmetician/Hairdresser – 1500 hours or 3000 apprenticeship hours
Barber – 1000 hours
Electrologist – 600 hours
