State of New Mexico, Nail Care Certification Requirements

You must be at least 17 with a 10th grade education.

To become a cosmetology instructor, you must have your cosmetology license and 1000 hours of training.

You must renew your license every 2 years during your birthday month. There is a $50 fee.

If you want to practice in New Mexico and you're from another state, you will need to provide proof of your license from that state, which must have the same or greater licensing requirements. You may also substitute 150 credit hours for each 6 full months of experience while you were licensed.

Instructors must complete 12 CEUs per year.

Educational requirements for New Mexico:

Cosmetologist – 1600 hours
Barber – 1200 hours
Esthetician – 600 hours
Electrologist – 600 hours
Manicurist/Pedicurist – 350 hours
Manicurist/Esthetician – 600 hours
Instructor – 1000 hours
