State of New York, Nail Care Certification Requirements
You must be 17 years old.
To become a cosmetology instructor, you must have your cosmetology license, 2 years of experience, and pass the Secondary Assessment of Teaching Skills written exam.
You must renew your cosmetology license every 4 years. There is a $40 fee.
Each state has a different reciprocity arrangement, which also will depend on your license and which state you're from. If your state is not on the reciprocity list, you may need to take more classes or take the New York state boards. There is a $40 application fee.
