State of South Carolina, Nail Care Certification Requirements
You must be 16 years old with a 10th grade education or equivalent.
To become a cosmetology instructor, you must have your high school diploma or GED. You need to pass the written and practical exams, hold a license and have been in practice for 2 years. You'll need to have completed a 750 hour teacher training program, and completed a board approved 45 hour method of teaching program.
License renewal is by March 10th, every 2 years. There is a $52 fee.
To practice in South Carolina if you're from another state means you'll need a valid license that's in good standing from your home state, and you must have passed the national exam.
Cosmetologists need to complete 12 CEUs every 2 years.
Instructors need to complete 24 CEUs every 2 years.
Educational requirements for South Carolina:
Cosmetology – 1500 hours Nail Technology – 300 hours Esthetics – 450 hours Hair Braiding – 1-day course (6 hours) Instructor – If person has been licensed and practicing for MORE THAN two years, then he/she must take a 45 Hour Methods of Teaching Course. If a person has been licensed and practicing for LESS THAN two years, then he/she must take a 750 Hour Instructor Training Program as well as a 45 Hour Methods of Teaching Course.
