State of North Carolina, Hair Styling Certification Requirements
There are no age or education prerequisites in North Carolina.
To become a cosmetology instructor, you must have your cosmetology license and 800 hours of training. Or, you must have proof that you worked full-time in a cosmetology shop for 5 years.
You must renew your cosmetology license by October 1, every 3 years. There is a $23 fee.
As long as you have a valid cosmetology license in good standing, and you're from a state that offers reciprocity to North Carolina, then there are no other requirements to work in the field.
Cosmetologists must complete 24 CEUs every 3 years.
Instructors must complete 8 CEUs every year.
