State of South Dakota, Hair Styling Certification Requirements
You need to be at least 18 years old and have your high school diploma or GED.
To become a cosmetology instructor, you need your cosmetology license, 1000 hours of salon experience, 1012 clock-hour instructor education program.
Your license must be renewed on or before your birthday every year. There is a $20 fee.
To practice in South Dakota if you're from another state, you need your license to be from a state that has equal or higher licensing requirements. Your work experience may be considered. You'll also need to pass the South Dakota laws and rules exam.
Instructors must complete 12 CEU hours of a commission-approved course every year.
